Thanks for stopping by! This is Day 2 of my 2015 “31 Days Reflecting on God” series. Find the rest over here.
The Lord is righteous in all his ways
and kind in all his works. Psalm 145:17
Sometimes I find it easier to lay down the law than to be kind. To tell people to suck it up and deal with their problem.
And I can be the same kind of hard on myself.
So when God shows up with kindness in my life, it surprises me. I expect him to tell me to pull up my bootstraps and move on. Yet he usually chooses to speak kind, soft words to my heart and remind me how much I’m loved.
God knows what we need. He says and shows that over and over again in his word. That doesn’t just mean he knows when our next electricity bill is due or a grocery shopping trip is in order. He also knows when we need to be reminded we are not alone, that we are special, that we are seen. He knows when we need encouraging words. He knows, too, when we need conviction of the sin that’s keeping us from being close to him. That’s his kindness, too, because anywhere other than close to his side is a lonely place to be.
“Kind in all his works.” I need God’s help, desperately, to be kind some days. But his kindness flows out of him and touches everything he does. His plans for me. His protection of me. His decision to allow pain to touch me. All kindness.
Once I heard it said that if we had the wisdom that God has, and knew the future like he does, we wouldn’t change one single thing about our lives, because everything he does, in his infinite wisdom and knowledge, is for our good. And his kindness guides the path he lays out for our feet.
Won’t you just sit awhile in that truth with me so it can transform how we see the ups and downs of our lives today?
